Hopeful Horizons’ 7th Annual Race4Love Raises More Than $11,000
Hopeful Horizons announced today that they raised more than $11,000 through the 7th Annual Race4Love benefiting local survivors of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault. The 5K run/3K walk was held on Saturday, February 16 on Cat Island.
This year’s Grand Marshal was Jennifer Petersen, from the History Channel’s Truck Night in America. Petersen and her 2000 Jeep Wrangler named “Rock Rage” competed in an extreme off-road course in an episode that aired in late January.
WJCL’s Riley Miller emceed the event. Miller joined the WJCL news team in February 2018. Prior to that, she worked at WDAY in Fargo, ND, and graduated from the University of Kentucky.
“We are so grateful to everyone who came out to run, walk and support Hopeful Horizons and our work to end abuse and change lives in the Lowcountry,” said Kristin Dubrowski, CEO of Hopeful Horizons. “Support of Race4Love helps to ensure that Hopeful Horizons’ lifesaving services are available free of charge for survivors in our area.”

The Race4Love has its origins in the Tate/Coursen Memorial Walk/Run that was organized by Marie Tate in 2012. The event honored Lance Cpl. Dana Tate and Cpl. Dyke “A.J.” Coursen, two Beaufort County Sheriff’s deputies who were killed when responding to a domestic violence call in 2002. Marie Tate, Lance Cpl. Dana Tate’s widow, is still actively involved in Race4Love and can be seen on the race course each year at the “Tate Turnaround.”
